The Bridges Family Scholarship Fund has been established to provide annual scholarships for two students from Stratford District Secondary School and two students from St. Michael Catholic Secondary School.
They Hayter Family Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to students at Stratford Central Secondary School and Stratford Northwestern Secondary School pursuing continuing education at a Canadian College or University in the field of hotel management or hospitality.
The Ian Garner Scholarship Fund is a scholarship fund that was established in 2010 within the Stratford Perth Community Foundation. After the sudden death of Ian Garner in 2010 Ian’s family, friends and teammates on the Stratford Old-Timers Hockey Club decided to continue his legacy by establishing this Fund. Ian is remembered by the countless athletes he helped guide over the 33 years he was at Central Secondary School as he believed that sports helped develop life-skills and values. This scholarship is awarded every year to Stratford Central Secondary School to a student who demonstrates good sportsmanlike behaviour, is academically sound and continuing in the field of physical education.
Known for her kindness and generosity – here in Stratford but also in many other impoverished areas around the world – local Rotarian Jean Aitcheson RN established the Jean Aitcheson Nursing Scholarship Fund at the Community Foundation for a Northwestern student entering his/her first year of post-secondary studies at a Canadian University or Community College working to obtain registration as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) or Registered Nurse (RN).“After a 52 year career, I’m deeply passionate about nursing,” shares Jean Aitcheson. “In celebration of my retirement, I set up the scholarship at the Community Foundation so that I could encourage young people to pursue their dream of nursing. Investing in the Foundation makes it an annual reminder for me.” Jean thinks that scholarships are a great idea for people who are business professionals, an opportunity to recognize the impact of your profession, the life you’ve lived and the satisfaction you felt in your career.
Geoffrey Neigh established the Neigh Scholarship Fund as a tribute to his own life and additionally to the life of his father, Edward G. Neigh who was also a former teacher and Vice Principal at Central. The scholarship is set up in two parts with $1,000 going to both a male and female Central student who has demonstrated exceptional participation in extracurricular activities in one area or a combination of sports, arts, student government etc. for the majority of their high school years.
The Peter and Lisa Hyde Family Fund is a Scholarship Fund that was established in 2013. Peter and Lisa, who own Hyde Construction Limited, along with their children Spencer & Sydnie, wanted to establish a fund to create a living legacy to support the community in which they live and work. This Fund provides two scholarships every year - one for a student at St. Michael Catholic Secondary School and one for a student at Stratford Northwestern Secondary School who are pursuing careers in construction, building or engineering.
The Peter Donaldson Memorial Fund is a scholarship fund that was established in 2011 within the Stratford Perth Community Foundation. Peter Donaldson, one of Canada’s and the Stratford Festival’s most beloved and versatile actors, lost his life to cancer in January 2011. Peter always had time to mentor young actors no matter his schedule, so as a lasting tribute to his talent and caring spirit several of Peter’s friends established the Peter Donaldson Memorial Fund. This Scholarship awards a student in our community that is enrolled in a theatre arts program at a post secondary institution annually and in the past has given to Stratford Central Secondary School.
The Scott Diamond Legacy Fund is a scholarship fund that was established in 2013. Scott was a dedicated accountant at Famme & Co. Professional Corporation who loved volunteering as well as spending time with his family and friends. After his passing, his family to wanted to start a legacy scholarship in Scott’s name to honour the memory of such a giving and big-hearted man. The family also hosts the Scott Diamond Memorial Golf Tournament every year to raise money for the fund. This fund provides an annual scholarship to a student at Stratford Northwestern Secondary School who is pursuing a post–secondary education in finance or accounting.
The Teahen Construction Ltd. Scholarship Fund supports students across Stratford, St. Marys, and Perth County as they pursue a career in the construction industry.
