Positive Parenting and Healthy Children

Aimed at increasing access to education, information, improved life skills, peer, and professional support for young parents and their partners, as well as to foster healthy growth and development for their children, the Perth District Health Unit’s Young Parents Place in Listowel and Stratford serves the needs of 192 mothers, 68 partners, and 287 children.

The program includes preparing nutritious and cost effective meals, eating together as a family, opportunities for informal discussions on various issues raised by participants, as well as social interaction to combat isolation. Structured instructional sessions provide information to increase awareness of positive parenting and the promotion of healthy child development.

The grant from the Community Foundation supported the costs of child care, food, program supplies, and transportation assistance.
